Synopsis
One week at the top of Las Vegas
Las Vegas, November 1999. The dot-com boom is roaring, the champagne is free, and four women from a San Jose tech company have the keys to the most expensive suite on the Strip.
Mel wants to be noticed. Corrina wants more. Imperia wants to stop feeling torn in half. And Britta, steady and happily married, just wants to get home to her husband and her four-year-old son.
Then a charismatic keynote speaker singles one of them out from a crowd of four thousand. By Wednesday, Mel is dead in a stairwell. By Saturday, Corrina has fallen forty-one floors from Britta's terrace, wearing Britta's robe.
The police call it a robbery and an accident. Britta's old friend on the force isn't so sure. And when Britta returns to the rooftop suite for one last sunrise, she is about to learn that the person who wants her gone is someone she trusts with her life.
What happens in Vegas was never meant to follow her home.

The suite in this story is not one real place. It is every hotel room I have ever checked into and looked out the window before unpacking, every high floor I have ever ridden up in a real estate elevator, and every roof I have ever been invited onto at a party and not wanted to leave.
A rooftop is the only place where the city is both your whole world and entirely separate from you. That is the feeling I wanted to give readers: high enough to see everything, close enough to feel it.
